How often should a heat pump be cleaned?
We recommend a professional deep clean once a year. Heat pumps run year-round in Nelson and Tasman, heating in winter and cooling in summer, so mould, dust and bacteria build up steadily on the coil and fan barrel. Homes near the coast or with pets may benefit from more frequent cleaning.
Can I clean my heat pump myself?
You can and should rinse the filters yourself every few weeks, it takes five minutes and keeps airflow healthy. But the coil and fan barrel, where mould and bacteria actually grow, sit behind the casing and require a full strip-down and high-pressure clean. That part is best left to a professional.

Do I need to move my furniture or clear the room?
To ensure a meticulous deep-clean, we just need clear access to the unit. If you have a TV cabinet, shelf, or delicate items directly underneath the heat pump, please have these moved prior to our arrival. For everything else, we’ve got you covered - we use comprehensive surface protection for your walls and floors to ensure the rest of the room remains pristine.
Will a deep-clean help reduce my power bill?
Yes. When the internal coils and fan wheels are clogged with dust and mould, your unit has to work much harder to heat or cool your room. A deep-clean restores efficiency, which can help lower your energy consumption.
